Engagement team supports planning success in Mid Devon

Affordable housing – or the lack of it – is vitally important across all areas of the country. Providing them in the numbers needed isn’t easy.

Engaging communities and stakeholders on plans for affordable housing in their areas is an important part of the process of delivering them.

So we were delighted to see Mid Devon District Council’s ambitions to provide 70 high quality, sustainable affordable homes in Tiverton supported unanimously by planning councillors.

Engagement support

Our engagement colleagues worked with the council and project team to support this project through the planning process.

We led a series of engagement events attended by more than 130 people, which helped to lay the foundations for a positive planning outcome. The project team loved our consultation material, designed by our Head of Creative Sam Bessant.

The local media, whose journalists live near the site beside Tiverton Gold Club, worked collaboratively with us and published detailed articles about the plans. They also attended the engagement events and spoke with the project team and members of the public.

We provided content for a dedicated section on the council’s website, which hosted an online questionnaire to capture local people’s feedback. The majority of those who took the time to share their views expressed support for the project.

Making a difference

The homes will achieve Passivhaus standard, with solar panels, air source heat pumps and electric vehicle charging points featuring across the development.

This project raises the bar for people in Mid Devon. It’s great to see what can be achieved by partners with the vision and ambition to deliver for their communities.
