Distinctive design to support local culture

Victoria Art Gallery designed banner to promote 'When Dreams Confront Reality: Surrealism in Britain'

Getting surreal for the Victoria Art Gallery

The Victoria Art Gallery is the home of art in Bath. We have enjoyed working with the team in the past to design promotional materials and were excited to support a high profile exhibition to an important local cultural institution.

The team appointed us to design the marketing materials for the gallery’s exhibition: When Dreams Confront Reality: Surrealism in Britain, celebrating the work of British surrealist artists from across the artistic era.

Our work supported the production of materials to promote and explain the exhibition inside and outside the venue, and at key locations across the region.

Promotional design included:

  • Outdoor advertising panels: bus, rail, airport and supermarkets
  • Printed venue graphics
  • Digital adverts
  • Social media graphics
  • Exhibition text panels

Design and project management support

Our designer, Stacey, created a suite of design concepts for the team to choose from. The team selected two artwork options on which to focus our two core designs. These were rolled out across advertising formats, ensuring the iconic Victoria Art Gallery branding remained intrinsic to design and call-to-action was clear.

Working with images of the original art meant that we could not crop or adapt them in any way. It was therefore even more important that we produced a design solution that preserved the artwork in their original dimensions and clearly spaced information for maximum impact.

The marketing assets were delivered across varying formats: digital and print; landscape and portrait. Our design was adapted to suit each dimension and format. This ensured messaging was consistent and the layout was pleasing to the eye whilst maintaining legibility.

Given the campaign’s multiple formats and deadlines, we were on hand to provide close project management to maintain the pace of design, feedback and approvals – working in close collaboration with the team at all stages.
