Social’s former director launches Distinctive Communications
Social’s former South West managing director Ben Lowndes has launched a new communications consultancy aimed at place-makers, purposeful businesses and public bodies.
Called Distinctive Communications, the consultancy’s team of six award-winning communications professionals include former members of Social’s South West office. Following an agreement with Social to acquire the South West business, Ben takes over as director of the newly-established Bristol-based business.
All members of Social’s South West team transferred to Distinctive under the agreement, as have its clients. The South West team had grown from having no clients in 2017 to generating £500,000 turnover last year.
The team has also championed good causes, volunteering time to help raise more than £200,000 to tackle holiday hunger and support community groups affected by the coronavirus outbreak in recent years.
Ben said: “I’m very proud of everything we’ve achieved at Social since setting up in Bristol in 2017. Continuing as Distinctive gives us the opportunity to build on this progress, with a strong focus on supporting place-makers, purposeful businesses and public bodies.
“Our mission as Distinctive is to deliver jargon-free effective communications to clients to build the trust they need to thrive – in their communities at city hall and in the media.”
The team has already won new projects for higher education clients. It continues to work for key retained clients, including Mactaggart & Mickel, Reef Group and Nuclear South West, offering campaign, stakeholder engagement, graphic design and branding support.
Ben added: “I couldn’t be happier to have such an excellent team working with me at Distinctive.
“I am also extremely grateful to Social for giving me the chance to build the team in 2017 and take it forward today. My thanks go to my team, clients and former colleagues for their support as we embark on this exciting next step.”
John Quinton-Barber, Founder and Chief Executive of Social said: “I’m very happy for the team as they embark on their journey as a new entity, Distinctive Communications. I am particularly proud of Ben who has dedicated these past four years to build a solid business in Bristol.
“I wish them every success for the future and Social will never forget their valuable contribution.”
